“He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me because he delighted in me…The Lord dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me. –Psalm 18:19–20
It is important we begin our days remembering we are unrighteous apart from God. We lust after power, control, comfort, and sex. We are more prone to set our hopes and desires on these than we do on the Father.
But we can be thankful that the Father does not leave us longing for these things above him. He brings us out into the broad places and rescues us from our sinful desires, because he delights in us.
He makes us righteous according to the cleanness of his son. We are no longer powerless to the sinful desires of our flesh nor the world. We can look to Jesus and trust in his finished work – he is our reward.
We can seek our reward and treasure in the father and his son, asking the Holy Spirit to help us in our quest. Our hearts can burn with a passion for the things of God. We can aim to reflect God’s character. Our souls can trust and be happy in God. Since we can, let us delight in, lift our eyes to, and set our hearts on God’s great love for us (Ephesians 2:4). We can – because he did.
