Give thanks to The Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever… –Psalm 136
Does giving thanks to The Lord seem hard to do? Is The Lord elevated in your desires? Is your soul filled with gratitude for the steadfast and endless love of God? Our problems with feeling rightly about God and his love may be because we are trying to feel by our own volition. We need to ask the Holy Spirit for help to feel rightly about God.
We need help to look back at all the great wonders of the Lord and become fascinated. We need help for our eyes to be opened – growing infatuated with the Lord’s enduring love and control. We need confidence in our future so we may grow in faithfulness and thankfulness – a proper response to the Lord’s steadfast love and promises fulfilled.
When the Father fills our hearts with his love and faithfulness, our hearts will be overjoyed. The father’s love will enable us to be like him: faithful and steadfast. This will be implicated in our love for our spouses and friends. Our prayers will be transformed, asking that our spouses’ and friends’ hearts will be excited and enlivened for Jesus instead of for us. Our desire will grow for them to say alongside us that “Great is The Lord and his steadfast love endures forever!”
Likewise, our prayers for trinkets, toys, houses, and cars will be transformed. Our prayers will be to see the joy of salvation flourish in the hearts of others, and we will want our lives to be part of that transformation. As we express the gratefulness and love shown toward us from the Father, we will see the need to help our communities – ultimately hoping they will join us in proclaiming “thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
