For kingship belongs to The Lord, and he rules over the nations… Posterity shall serve him; it shall be told of The Lord to the coming generation; they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn, that he has done it.” –Psalm 22:28, 30–31
People in positions of power have no power – they have responsibilities given to them from God. Some aim to use their responsibility to glorify God, others aim to glorify themselves. So seeking to secure power in people – professing Christians or non-Christians – is futile. It is better to trust in the power source: God.
In God alone we have a sure hope. He owns all public offices. This hope is also a delight for us. We are not left to only hope in flawed leaders.
We hope in Jesus. He inaugurated his kingdom on this earth thousands of years ago.
And because Jesus is Lord of our souls, flesh, and hearts, we seek the Holy Spirit to give us desires that are molded for the glory of God. We seek help because we are a broken apart from Christ.
Yet through God’s faithfulness he uses broken vessels to proclaim his righteousness throughout generations. It’s how we who believe today are able to taste and see his goodness.
May our hearts be quickened to proclaim the righteousness of Jesus and to exalt him in speech and action today. Let’s say to our souls “believe and hope in the gospel that is sustaining your very being. Hope in the Holy One of Israel, the only one worthy of being slain to take on the wrath we deserve.”
May The Lord be praised and exalted above our leaders.
