I always have a song stuck in my head. It’s like a constant soundtrack to my life. The only way I can get those songs out of my head is by either listening to the earworm or finding something new to listen to.
I thought it would be cool to share the music and podcasts that stick with me through the week. I’ll scroll through my ‘Heavy Rotation’ section on Apple Music and ‘Recently Played’ on Spotify and share what I have. It gets them out of my head and maybe exposes you to some new content.
So here’s what’s in my head or new this week. This week will be a little longer than usual and some of the content has been released in the past three weeks or so for this inaugural segment:
ERLC Podcast: Millenials and Cultural Engagement
At the ERLC’s National Conference, a round table of leaders who are, or regularly engage with, millenials discuss the stereotypes, strengths, weaknesses, and hopes for the up and coming generation. Here’s the Apple Podcasts link.
Darkie, by Propaganda featuring Micah Bournes and Jackie Hill Perry
This is a single from Propaganda’s new album Crooked to be released June 30th. It is an honest assessment of each artist’s struggle to be comfortable in their own skin, as well as the dismissive responses by many in the majority white culture. You can listen on Apple Music, Spotify, or YouTube.
Pass The Mic Podcast: Racism and Christian Education
Jemar and Tyler break down the harsh effects when predominately white Christian education establishments ignore or look over their racial biases. They also explore ways this can be ended. Listen here.
Powerball, by Ki’shon Furlow
I have played this song several times in the weight room for my freshman football athletes. They never heard the song, but I saw a lot of heads bobbing. Good song to vibe to.
Sure as the Moon, by Willow Stephens featuring Andy Mineo
A down to earth, soft song about marriage and the realities of the changes the relationship goes through. Willow’s EP Willow Stephens – EP recently released. Listen on Apple Music.
Love, by Kendrick Lamar
This songis off Kendrick’s latest album DAMN.. It’s another song that makes me think of my relationship with my wife. The album has been heavily praised, with just about every song reaching the Top 100. (Warning: the contents of his album are explicit)
We Belong, album by Gawvi
There’s a lot of new music I’m waiting to release this summer. In the meantime, Gawvi’s debut album under Reach Records has been doing a great job holding me over. It has a very eclectic and diverse sound, and no song sounds the same. Check it out.
If you have any music or Podcasts you’d like to share, please pass it along!
